The purpose of the Degree Programme in Folk Music is to provide students with a comprehensive, practical mastery of historical as well as contemporary folk music playing and singing, and to introduce them to research in folk music. Upon completion of the degree programme, the students will be prepared for the demanding tasks of folk music pedagogue, instructor and musician, as well as for a variety of other positions that require special expertise in folk music. In addition, students attain the skills necessary for further studies.
The 25-year long history of the Department of Folk Music has resulted in the awarding of over 80 Masters, two Licentiates and six Doctorates of Music.
